Kitchen As it was really wasn’t big enough for an island it was crazy tight with less than 3 ft on each side – eek. When Evelyn and Greg would ask me about resale I would say don’t worry about it, if we make something great it’s gonna sell but the way we make something great is by not doing stupid icky things like leaving less than 3 ft on either side of an island especially when there are bar stools and a traffic flow to outside… so we fixed it cause this house really wants to have an island…
Do you like what we’ve done with the place?? We did tones of drawings but paper is cheap and in a way as lovely as a drawing is and I shared some of them with you in the last posts they aint real and they can look amazing but it’s like saying a picture of a dubos torte TASTES great it don’t cause it can’t SO …we took it all apart,
and put it on the porch . “There goes the neighbourhood” as Greg informed his friends and we’re hopin so cause if we kept it small and efficient all around like we’re doing here we’d have a much more sustainable city. You can buy a whole lotta house out pst ikea on Greenbank boon docks brand new and culturless in a scary way.. Stuff is on the porch for now cause in the winter it’s hard to get a bin in this city especially when folks are living with just one car and don’t even have a street permit which is very cool and commendable till one needs a bin… can’t do that out greenbank way at least not easily …
so it was and eternally is cause it should be, it costs a lot a tonne to renovate or build new and all that crap ends up in our land fills we GOTTA be sure we’re building to last and our deisng is elegant in the way that means harmony of form and function/ Back to the drawing board, which in this case is an extreme sport – this may be the toughest kitchen I have ever tried to crack and this is just a few of kabillions of concepts that I tossed and even these were actually tossed BUT what we got is PRETTY GREAT! It’s gonna have to be a surprise cause I don’t have a picture of it cause my iphone broke and icky rogers say if I get a new phone I have to “upgrade” my data plan for a mere 10 bucks a month. I don’t like them ATALL!!! who does business that way ??it’s icky. But this kitchen isn ‘t just wait and see!
And I would like to introduce you to dubos torte! See how yummy it tastes? I know cause Greg and me are Hungarian, Magyar , and this is our national treasure or one of them but I especially know cause I constructed an entire eco village out of candy once upon a time. ( you can read about it on the home page here) Anyways I have a confession – I used caulking, just a little bit (and then bought it back and donated the village to cmhc so I would be sure it wouldn’t get eaten ) I was loosing my candy coated marbles at the time cause I created that particularly delightful masterpiece while living in the sweetest home that was only 325 sq ft all in (which you can read about on my web site under the press section if you are so inclined- it’s titled Living BIG)… anyways what I am getting at is it can’t taste good cause it aint cake. Just like how as gorgeous as a blue print or rendering is it aint space, and it’s not real and may not work— this is why I am design build so the real / the reality – can inform the home so that it tastes really good for real.
